Meet our Members: Sydney Adams, Team “Mom”
1. Year of expected graduation - 2012
2. Major - World Arts and Cultures and Communication Studies
3. Level & event (singles freeskate, dance, theater on ice, etc.) - Senior Level Showcase (never really competed in freeskate/technical except for testing). Now I skate with Feld Entertainment/Disney on Ice
4. Years skated - 13
5. Home rink and city (where skated most of your career) - Iceland Ice Arena in Sacramento, CA
6. How did you first get into skating? - Saw Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov during a Disney television skating special in 1994 and was hooked.
7. Favorite skater (idol) - Kurt Browning
8. favorite element - to perform? Russian Split or Layback Spin. to watch? an ina bauer into a single or double axel
7. Most outrageous program/costume - program? tie between “Tits and Ass” from “A Chorus Line” or “Two Ladies” from “Cabaret”. In the former I was skating in hot pants and a bra top. In the latter every single element of choreography implied a threesome sexcapade. Uh, awkward?
9. Most embarrassing figure skating memory - During a rehearsal for a show I performed a russian split jump too close to the wall….I ended up hitting the wall and actually flipping completely over it off the ice. Not cute.
10. Favorite figure skating memory - Every single show I’ve had the privilege to skate in.
11. (A couple) Cool/interesting things about yourself - I am also a competitive ballroom dancer. I’m an avid foodie and cook - I spend more on ingredients to use in my food during the course of a month than I do on any other leisure activities.
12. Why did you decide to join the UCLA figure skating team? - It’s been three years of trying and failing for anyone who has attempted to start it, so it’s awesome to leave UCLA on a positive note.
13. Favorite thing about UCLA - The well-rounded sense of community. Everyone here is not only fantastically intelligent, talented, and creative, but are provided with the outlets to express the individual interests created by those qualities. The result is that everyone is proud to be a Bruin =)
